Last week our Year 8,9 and 10 Pilton Climbing Club students went on an outdoor climbing trip to Dartmoor.
They put their skills to the test on 5 routes on Hound Tor. The instructors from Skern Lodge were very impressed with how well they adapted their skills to real rock and kept having to set up harder and harder climbs for them, to make sure they were challenged.
Our students showed great teamwork by safely belaying each other up routes and giving each other advice on the best way to climb each section. They learnt how to read guidebooks, how the outdoor grading system works and even learnt about placing gear into the rock to protect the climber - they also had a practice doing this at ground level.
We finished the day off by exploring the Hound Tor area; a beautiful location for a day of climbing. A big thanks to the instructors from Skern Lodge for an amazing day out!
