Eco Club making a real difference at Croyde, with Sand Dunes Restoration Project!

May 07, 2026

On Thursday 7 May 2026, our dedicated Eco Club students headed to Croyde to support the Beach Rangers in an important Sand Dunes Restoration Project.

The sand dunes at Croyde are currently eroding at an alarming rate, largely due to activities like running, jumping, and bodyboarding, which damage the vital marram grass. Without this grass to hold the sand together, strong winds simply blow it away — putting this precious habitat at risk.

Our amazing students stepped in to help tackle the problem by planting old Christmas trees into the dunes. These trees act as natural barriers, trapping sand and helping the dunes rebuild over time. This is part of a 5-year restoration project, after which marram grass will be replanted to sustain the habitat long-term.

Our Eco Team worked incredibly hard — carrying and planting between 60–70 Christmas trees across the dunes!

They finished their morning with a beach clean, even discovering a crisp packet dating back to 2003 — a powerful reminder of why their work matters.

Students were encouraged to revisit the area in the coming years to see the lasting impact of their efforts — and we can’t wait to watch this habitat thrive again thanks to their hard work and commitment.

We’re so proud of our Eco Club for making a tangible difference to the environment!
