
We are passionate about reading and literacy at Pilton; great reading and literacy has the power to transform lives and we're committed to improving every student's reading skills, regardless of their starting point, through screening, intervention, tutor reads and subject-specific teaching of vocabulary (disciplinary literacy).
In 2024/25:
all Year 7 students took part in the Lexonic intervention. On average, these students made an improvement of 4 standard points on their sight word reading (decoding) tests (WRAT-5). This suggests students have better control over their reading and spelling abilities.
Y7 (whole cohort) students' standard score on the New Group Reading Test (NGRT) (reading comprehension) increased by 2.6 points on average, to a total of 104 points. The national average standard score is 100.
Year 7 students in receipt of Lexia intervention made, on average, an increase of 7.4 points on their NGRT standard score.
Year 8 students in receipt of Lexia intervention made, on average, an increase of 7.6 points on their NGRT standard score.
