Great Day for Rugby Girls

Dec 01, 2023

Last Friday 16 year 7 girls took part in a Rugby Development day at Bideford Rugby Club. They did a series of workshops in the morning focusing on how to tackle and be tackled safely. They then put these skills into practice in the afternoon in some rugby matches against other local schools. The girls really impressed us with their courage to try new activities, put themselves into situations where they would be tackled and trying their new tackling skills in matches. They also showed great respect to other teams, made friends with girls from other schools and followed the safety rules set out by the coaches.

There were some very exciting moments of rugby involving our Pilton players; some had some great runs with the ball through lots of the opposition, often resulting in a try, others made some quick passes to find players in space, whilst some performed some crucial tackles to stop the opposition from advancing. The girls all did their school proud and fully embraced the experience especially the mud!

If any other girls are interested in playing rugby inside or outside of school, please speak with Miss Fishleigh in the PE Office.
