Last week was a fab first full week back for Miss Thorne’s Lexia groups, who are all in the competitive spirit! Logan in Year 8 has completed an incredible 265 minutes of Lexia already. Well done Logan!

Year 8s had a fun day at the beach at the Junior Beach Lifeguard day last week. In the morning they learnt about beach safety, developed their skills in wading, running and paddling boards in the sea and put these skills to the test rescuing each other. After a picnic lunch, the afternoon involved a beach clean, beach games and a beach flags competition…and quite few sandcastles!

Pilton students enjoyed a great day out at the England v Australia 3rd One Day International at Taunton Cricket Club on Tuesday. Great result and the players signed shirts after the game.

We're delighted to announce @Place2Be is our new in-school mental health support service. Vikki Harvey is our dedicated Place2Be mental health professional. She will work with our students, families and school staff to improve emotional wellbeing and help our school community to cope with challenging life issues.

Yet more sporting success for Pilton students with the news that brothers Theo and Toby have got into the England Handball U14 South Academy and the England Handball U16 National Academy. Congratulations to them both!

We're thrilled to share the exciting news that former student Ben Norris will be performing in the Proms concert season at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC NOW Orchestra on Friday evening. Ben is now a professional viola player, having graduated from the Welsh College of Music and will be also be playing with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra later in the summer.

Not content with three gold medals and a silver at the recent Braunton Devon Open Athletics Championship, Isla came home from Surf Lifesaving Devon in Exmouth this weekend with a clutch of eight more medals, She's on track to beat a couple of school records at Sports Day tomorrow too. What a champion!

Our show jumpers did us proud again this weekend at Coxleigh Barton with the Pilton team finishing 2nd and 4th overall in the 70cm and 60cm rounds. Thanks to their success in their individual rounds, Year 8 students Mattie and Freya are now both North Devon Schools champions - Mattie in the 60cm and Freya in the 70cm. Harriett was placed second in the 90 cm round. Congratulations to the all winners, including Francesca and Charlie who were also part of the Pilton team.

And in more food news... Mr Standford was very proud of the skill and imagination of his Year 10 group today who were challenged to make egg on toast and present it in the most appealing way possible. Some budding chefs in the making here, surely?
