At the beginning of July, more than 220 of our Year 10 students took part in Work Experience Week. Having spent many weeks finding their placements, negotiating with employers and filling in forms, they joined the world of work with a diverse range of employers ranging from local primary schools and nurseries to retail businesses, veterinary surgeons, the NHS and media companies, to name but a few. Feedback from students and employers alike has been overwhelmingly positive with many students reporting that they have secured part-time jobs with their placements as a consequence of a very successful week. Some may even go on to take up apprenticeships when they leave school at the end of Year 11.
Students who stayed in school during the week enjoyed a full programme of work-related events including talks from local businesses, a visit to a local recycling centre, CV preparation and taking part in mock interviews.
All in all the week was a great success and we look forward to doing it all again next year.
