Outdoor Activities @ Pilton

Mr Bell has reported that the Pilton 2021/22 Outdoor Activity season is now well and truly underway. The season began in October last year when a group of Year 11 students (pictured here on a clapper bridge near Rough Tor) undertook their D of E Practice Silver Expedition with two nights and three days on Bodmin Moor. They'll complete the Silver Expedition after their GCSE exams at the end of June 2022.

The focus for our outdoors pursuiters is now on the Ten Tors event, to be held in May. Seventeen students are competing for 12 places via a tough training programme which involves attending ten walks of varying length and terrain where they will be judged on the selection criteria. If successful, they move through to be part of the two 35 mile teams. At the time of writing, we are at Walk 5, the halfway point.

In April, forty Year 9 students will begin training on Exmoor for their Bronze expedition, to be completed in May and July. This will be timed to allow the majority of them to be awarded their Bronze DofE certificates.

A select few from year 10 will then begin working towards completing their Silver DofE award.

Despite the issues with Covid the outdoors is always there for us!
